First, the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE has also been coined “Not For Long” among players and fans. While preaching one year ago today in Ohio; I had the privilege to tour the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. I saw the museum the day before the SUPER BOWL but missed the entire game after preaching three times in two days on the flight home. I am certainly not complaining because I know that the BIGGEST GAME is in souls and it’s wise to chase the ETERNAL not temporal.
Secondly, my hat goes off to the New Orleans Saints. One, I almost always root for the underdog and I love the NFC. Peyton Manning is a gifted student of the game and has had an amazing career (even if he elects to call it quits) but I must say that the Colts impressed me but the Saints inspired me. Much has been said the past couple years of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. What has been neglected is during that time their stadium housed the homeless while the Saints organization became homeless having to play every single game on the road. This is what we call “CHARACTER BUILDING.”
Talk about courage under fire, these brothers literally dug deep while going out and playing every single game two years ago in an opponents arena. Most would have buckled but some folks break under pressure while others Break Records. In life, some get bitter and others grow BETTER. I have always said: “Those that have come the furthest tend to go the farthest.” What do I mean by that? Consider a rubber band – the stronger the resistance the greater the distance. Perhaps, that is why God uses the BROKEN the most because they don’t rely on self but their Savior. I’m convinced that our adversity today prepares us for God’s Varsity tomorrow. Our mess now becomes one’s message later. The test in the present becomes our TESTimony in the future.
When crisis comes upon us we must get creative and cling to Christ. I shared before the game that Jesus en route to His death rode a Colt but in our lives via His Holy Spirit is present with the Saints. Some suggest that God is not in the affairs of men. I believe He is. It’s not that God isn’t interested in man but sadly, men are not always attuned to the affairs of God. Some suggest that the beer commercials are the best and the one where the people laid down their lives so the truck could deliver the “goods” was interesting. Talk about BEER OVER TROUBLED WATERS.
Its ironic, how Madison Avenue or Hollywood take a Biblical reference and twist it for their benefit. The chasm between man and God is not liquor but the Lord. Some got goods but do we got God? The other beer commercial with the plane wreck basically said “Life is a party” as long as you got beer. Just the Gospel Truth, Heaven NOT hell will be the biggest Party of all time. The Almighty not alcohol is the bridge that closes the gap and because of the cross we can have an eternal encounter with Christ. Nothing wrong with having fun but if we live and die without Faith in Christ as our Savior, Subsitute and Sacrifice we are deceived by the Devil.
Indeed, the football season is too short. Some wives may disagree but the season is over before you know it and many sports fans long to fill the void after the season. “March Madness” starts in less than two weeks and I often wondered if sports weren’t strategically placed to keep our mind off the Biggest Game which is salvation found only in Christ. God gave me a word recently. THE BIGGEST LOSER is not the one who lost the most weight but WAITED TOO LONG to find God. In this tough economy, loss of employment, feelings of fear, many Christians have taken some serious shots. Some are either on the ropes or sitting on the sidelines, wondering if it will pay off in the end? As the Saints had to play in a foreign stadium weekly, consider Christ who Divinity became Humanity. He left the worship of Heaven to come to the rejection of Earth. The Son became sin and tempted without ever sinning. Contradictory no but Champion yes!
Recently, I read where a man paid $14,000 for two tickets to the game and in my spirit I wondered if they would “neglect so great a Salvation” for FREE. 100 years from now even the Super Bowl will resemble the Toilet Bowl if we failed to grab the grace of God. This may sound harsh but Hell is hot, eternity is forever and no one wins if at the end we were not prepared to meet Him. The GOOD NEWS is that Jesus is in the soul, saving business! Nothing wrong with going to the big game – my parents went to the Super Bowl in 1992, when the Redskins beat the Bills in Minneapolis. But praise God – they got their reservation for Heaven long ago. The Saints are living proof, it doesn’t matter where you have been but what matters most is WHERE you are going. Child of God, perhaps you have also taken some hits, dangled on the ropes of romance or just waiting for the Referee (Jesus) to either stop the fight or start fighting for you – rest assured, we win in the end. In closing, I also said that win or lose today I knew that in the end it will not only be worth it but when the Trumpet sounds, the whistle blows, the Game of Life is over and the Lord appears “The Saints Go Marching In.” Yes, this life is NFL (Not For Long) and get God before your Game is Over.
GREAT POST (as usual)! Thanks for reminding us to chase Jesus – He is the Giver in this game called LIFE
Frank, I love how you wear Jesus on your sleeve. You certainly glow for God. Bless you my friend
I needed this word today…thank you dear brother in Christ! Blessings on you!!
Brother Frank, it has been my experience and understanding is that I will find God on the mountaintop, but I will find Jesus in the Valley. “Yeah though I walk through the Valley of Death, I shall fear no evil, for thou art with me. . .thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.”
Way to put things into perspective bro! Thank you for letting God use you in a powerful way. 🙂
That is so true. Amen!
Frank, you carry the Light of Jesus on your sleeves and no doubt God is pleased with
your ministry.
When your down to nothing, Jesus is UP to something Your favorite quote now
mine!!
Glad to be friends!! Wish I knew about the cruise sooner with you and Anthony Evans. Maybe next time – have fun!
Hey, for those of you that have yet to meet Frank: he is a HUMBLE man of God. He is a great encourager also; he doesn’t give you a chance to lift him up, but rather let’s you know how much he appreciates you.
Frank, keep on doing what you’re doing. Your work is not in vain, and the perks of gaining so many friends are great too, cause I’m one of them! Not mention – you are hilarious!
SIMPLY AMAZING!!!! That truly blesses my soul to hear that and just for the record I agree 100 percent with you on your blog!!
Really enjoyed talking with you yesterday – you have such an amazing gift of encouragement…it’s contagious!!
I love football but you convicted me to love Jesus more!

Mr Shelton – SMITH ISLAND LOVES YOU! Hope you come back and preach at our 111th Annual Camp Meeting in the summer. We would love to have you back and preach!
You’re message was incredible and its always refreshing to hear
the Word brought in at such a unique angle.
Your stories were so encouraging (like the one about the eagle), and its awesome to meet someone who shares the same outlook of God choosing your partner and not dating. That’s a big thing for me. lol.
Thanks for coming to LaBelle, FL God has done so much through you and He
will continue to do so. Thanks for being real and humble to let God work through
you. “
Hallelujah, Bro. Frank just think what Haiti could do with the Supper Bowl ticket money. Wouldn’t it be great if we made a commercial about Christ standing at the gate knocking and everyone in the stadium could hear it and see it. Just a thought.
Point said first down and life to go, the clock is running out. Amen!!
Brother Frank – speaking of football – we are still believing for you to speak to 80,000 one day at FED EX Field. When are you going to have another Celebrate Jesus! Crusade in Waldorf?
We love you buddy and God is really using you. I told you that 10 years ago. Love to hear you preach. Pray for us because our health is not to good. Hope to see you and your pretty wife soon.
WOW! Have you every thought of being a PREACHER? LOL! That is powerful!
Frank, hope to hear you speak at New Life sometime soon. I love reading the insights GOD gives you. I ponder them and take them to heart. I appreciate all the advice you have to give! Thanks for answering His call on your life!
God Bless
Thank you for super bowl post, I just want to say that the massege is big blessing to me
I really like this analogy. May I nver be caught ashamed of the Gospel because I AM A FAN OF JESUS!
Frank, the fact that God gave you this message while watching a football game is awesome!! Continue lifting up the name of Jesus and you and your household will be blessed.
Best regards,
Sister Anita
Frank, you have to be one of the most humble people I know – to speak and
minister on the platforms and arenas you do – that doesnt matter to you as much
as the message being delivered – You are willing to deliver it anywhere and
anytime you get the opportunity…When I grow up I want to be just like you
Hi Frank,
I enjoyed your NFL message, and I’ve got to tell you . . . The video with Danny Kaye and Satchmo were a blast! I showed it to my son and we spent hours just listening yesterday after shoveling snow. What a special treat! THANKS AGAIN.
BLESSINGS,
WARREN
Hi Frank I have found that when God knows without doubt that you love him more than yourself he really opens his word up to us in ways we never understood before.Reading Luke chapter 15 i found out exactly how Gods will works for ones life and i know many get mad when they here me say things but when a person is in the will of God and doing as he ask he reveals things to us in very special ways.I have found this is how he gives us desernment and understanding to a point others do not understand and many then think your way off base.I know this that God calls people to do many differant things even a milk man and those people are so very important to the kingdom of God but so many times we leave them out as you say because if there not on tv there not much or at least many christians would say they must not be living right, but they are. Some are living much better and doing much better because they are truly in the will of God.I have found being in the total will of God is so special and he answers prayers for me like i could not have ever believed possible. It is for sure when you love him more than yourself it makes all the differance in this world and i have never been happier in my life.I just want others to understand this because the ride you can get from God when your in his will totally and when you give him all of your love life changing things start to happen and the blessings he hands out are truly amazing to say the least.I as well know for sure when one brother doesnt love another or communicate there love towards one another God will not bless them. They might think in there own minds they are being blessed but not by God maybe by man.Jesus said without question if you cannot get along and love your brothers and sisters you cannot truly love him nor can you enter into the gates of heaven. It doesnt matter how many times you have preached a great sermon nor how many you have tried to lead to him,he said you must love your fellow christians to enter in.He gave not any other way out of this.I want all to know i love them, im there for them and i want them all to do the same and understand the words Jesus told us because i want all of my brothers and sisters in heaven with me.May God bless his words he has given to me and may they sink in to the souls that need these words.I understand why Jesus spoke on love so much,he knew how important that would be to enter into heaven.LICJ Harold.PS.Hope your criuse went well.
