Yesterday, my dear friend and fellow Evangelist Randy Hogue texted me the quote below. It touched me so much that immediately I added a picture of Bono and shared it on FB and less than 18 hours it got over 144 shares and scores of comments. Literally, because of friends sharing it with their social network thousands of people read his take on Christ in less than a day. Everyone has a platform and we should use ours to promote Christ.
Ironically, six months ago while preaching on JC-TV @ Trinity Broadcast Network in Santa Ana, CA for the closing night of their telethon on world-wide television I quoted a song title from U2. My text was in Luke 19 preaching on Jesus going through Jericho and He made a Kingdom connection with Zacchaeus. God gave me this but I shared in the sermon that Christ was coming to and through Jericho like U2’s number one hit: “WITH OR WITHOUT YOU.” I love that old hymn: “Pass me not gentle Savior, hear my humble cry, while on Earth thou art calling, DO NOT PASS ME BY.” Jesus said today is the day of salvation and tonight or tomorrow is not guaranteed. Below is Bono on Jesus and because of grace Jesus is IN Bono.
The mega-star frontman of the great rock band, U2, was asked wasn’t it far-fetched to believe Jesus Christ is God? Here’s how he replied:
“No, it’s not farfetched to me. Look, the secular response to the Christ story always goes like this: he was a great prophet, obviously a very interesting guy, had a lot to say along the lines of other great prophets, be they Elijah, Muhammad, Buddha, or Confucius. But actually Christ doesn’t allow you that. He doesn’t let you off that hook. Christ says: No. I’m not saying I’m a teacher, don’t call me teacher. I’m not saying I’m a prophet. I’m saying: “I’m the Messiah.” I’m saying: “I am God incarnate.”
And people say: No, no, please, just be a prophet. A prophet, we can take. You’re a bit eccentric. We’ve had John the Baptist eating locusts and wild honey, we can handle that. But don’t mention the “M” word! Because, you know, we’re gonna have to crucify you. And he goes: No, no. I know you’re expecting me to come back with an army, and set you free from these creeps, but actually I am the Messiah.
…So what you’re left with is: either Christ was who He said He was–the Messiah–or a complete nutcase. I mean, we’re talking nutcase on the level of Charles Manson. … I’m not joking here. The idea that the entire course of civilization for over half of the globe could have its fate changed and turned upside-down by a nutcase, for me, that’s farfetched… ”

Fortunately, for Bono and me “We found what (Who) we’re looking for.” Have you? Because of God’s grace U2 can meet Christ too! Today, Jesus asks the age old question: “But WHO do you say I AM?” – The Bible
Thanks for sharing Frank. Same point C.S. Lewis made, phrased differently. I love it because, as usual, the truth is right there in front of people and they work so hard to get around it, to ignore it, and to try to discredit it. What they end up coming up with typically takes more faith than the truth.
I loved Bono’s message at the prayer breakfast when George Bush was President. He was disenchanted with religion at an early age but managed to keep his eyes on the one true God
For a guy who was so turned off to religion as a teenager, it’s good to see that he found a living relationship with Jesus is real and far better. Run! Run from religion and religious activities. Be afraid, be very afraid
Always trust an Irishman…
Bono is awesome! Jesus is doubly AWESOME!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!! GO GOD!!
Great post! My name is Pastor Fennell and I pastor a new church plant in La Plata, MD
called The SiNGWeLL Church. On May 25, 2013 at the Charles County Revival,
I met Frank and had the wonderful opportunity to hear Frank Shelton speak
for the first time. When I spoke with him I mentioned tthat I found him
online while trying to research the Charles County Revival. I had just
learned about it a few days prior when I met Evangelist Wayne Matthews. So
coming to the revival those two names are the only names I new of Frank
Shelton and Wayne Matthews. I also mentioned to him that I watch the video
of him speaking about the event I enjoyed what he had to say and I was
excited when i arrived to the revival he was the very next speaker.
Ok so i rambled on a little, but was excited no the less. Anyway *I am
writing today because I would like to learn more about 2014 trip to Hati.
